In 2013, 2014 and in 2016, World Travel Awards distinguished Madeira as Europe’s Leading Island Destination. In 2017, the same entity awarded Madeira with the World’s Leading Island Destination title.
After being elected last June “Europe´s Leading island destination” , Madeira Islands is now competing for world title at the World Travel Awards in the category of “World´s Leading Island Destination”.Among the nominees in this category include other tourist destinations, namely Ambergris Caye (Belize), Bali (Indonesia), Barbados, the Cook Islands, Cozumel (Mexico), Crete (Greece), Fiji, Hawaii, Jamaica, the Maldives, Mauritius, the Seychelles, Sicily (Italy), Santa Lucia, Turks & Caicos and Zanzibar (Tanzania), in a voting process that will take place between September,10th and October,24th. Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards honour the best examples of good practices in the tourism sector worldwide.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 1st December in Lisbon (Portugal).
Also in 2018, Madeira was called the world’s sixth best island for spending the holidays. This vote, published by the biggest travel website in the world – TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards – results from the opinion of thousands of tourists worldwide. In 2016, Madeira won again the award of World’s Leading Island Destination.
